2409 E Empire… I’ll miss you!
It’s been a long process of back and forth, this way or that way, ups and downs and should I’s or shouldn’t I’s. You know… all that indecision and second-guessing that goes into making a decision. The start of a new year, though, has given me a good juncture for making up my mind. And so with 2019 only moments away I’m happy to share my new plans with you!
Home & Range and I are moving and shifting shape a bit. As of February 1st my art studio and Home & Range scene will be happily settled into our new quonset hut digs at the corner of Rd. X and Hwy 491 in Yellow Jacket, CO. Some of you will know this location from when it housed antiques some years back and some of you will know its current incarnation as Dave Butler’s Road X Metal Werx vintage-vehicle-and-trailer-and-metal-art-eye-catcher.
Dave, my collaborator and partner in all things art, love and life, has been transforming the quonset into an inspiring, creativity-filled building complete with a new gallery and art-making spaces. I’ll have my own studio and will be expanding my collaboration with Dave in transforming the rest of the Road X quonset. We envision a place that marries contemporary art intentions with rural ideas and inspiration. A place for us to work and show and collaborate with other artists who share a similar vision.
So where does Home & Range fall in all this? It certainly is still an ongoing focus and a big part of how I envision things evolving. I have all sorts of new ideas and lampshade and art-for-every-day projects in the works. While there’s a great space for a gallery/shop in the quonset, my immediate plan is to take a break from a regular retail venture. I’m aiming for a handful of Pop-Up Shops in and around Yellow Jacket and SW CO in the next year, to revisit the online retail thing, and to travel to a few regional art fairs. I’ll be active on Facebook and Instagram so you can always find me there. And of course I’ll also be a phone call or email away for shopping by appointment.
Home & Range at my current location on E Empire St. will be open a couple more weekends (Friday & Saturday, January 4-5 and 11-12 11am – 6pm) as I move my studio from the back space. I’d love to see you and hope you can stop by to say hi.
Once unpacked and set-up at Road X I’ll definitely be inviting you out for an open house and chance to visit the new digs. I also have in mind a lampshade design and commission event soon… more details to come on that one!
The Cortez Warehouse District has been a really wonderful place for me to settle into the artist life and experiment with ways to craft a business out of it. I’ve loved the studio and shop spaces, the views out the big picture windows, the community art events, and all the collaboration and fun I’ve had with Shari next door at Clementine Design. Time for things to evolve, though, so off we go to the big sky views and quonset hut fun in Yellow Jacket!
A huge thank you for continuing to follow my progress and supporting my ventures. I can’t wait to share the next phase!
In the mean time, a big Happy New Year to you. May 2019 bring you much joy.
