It’s all white and cold here in southwest Colorado. White and cold with a big blue sky but besides house plants and pine trees not much in the way of green. I’ve been thumbing through garden catalogs, thinking wistfully of bouquets of fresh flowers and arms full of just-picked vegetables. And the smell of dirt, I’m nostalgic for that dark aroma especially.
Don’t those garden catalogs arrive in the mail at just the right time? It’s just when all of us backyard homesteaders are feeling cabin fever most acutely. Those pictures of garden crops are so bright and lively in the midst of winter grey, bewitching with promises of the garden season to come.
I say giving into this bewitchment is the perfect antidote to winter blues. Gather up a cup of tea, a notepad and a stack of catalogs (or tablet and wi-fi) and do some garden dreaming. The days are getting longer, spring is on its way!
