THIS FALL I finished out my last summer of farm work, a bittersweet ending to almost three decades of wonderful but demanding work and way of life. My body is glad to be putting the hard physical part behind me, but it seems my heart will forever hold on. Once a farmer, always a farmer I guess. Years of friendships, mentors, challenges, opportunities, inspiration, lots of beauty and so much wonderful food came to me from the small-farm community. How could I ever really leave that behind?
It’s been a really good realization, this attachment to the small farm world, and has inspired me to look at my new venture Home & Range in that light. Home & Range was an idea first born on a farm, is focused on products inspired by and for farms, homesteads, backyard gardens and rural life. And I’m realizing it’s also my way to stay connected to that world.
I’m hatching ideas… small-farm connections and inspirations and am excited to share them with you as they unfold over the next several months.
First up is the Home & Range Open Studio Holiday Shop for which we’re partnering with two local agriculture organizations that we love and love to support. Montezuma Land Conservancy (MLC) will be hosting the opening night party (December 4th, 4 – 8pm) and Montezuma Orchard Restoration Project (MORP) will be putting on a slew of “pie walks” throughout the day on Saturday (December 5th, 10am – 5pm) in addition to having products for sale.
During all the festivities Home & Range will be donating 10% of sales to these great organizations. So take the opportunity to meet the folks who are doing wonderful conservation work in our community and help Home & Range support them while also doing a little holiday shopping.
